I’m sure you have many questions about commissioning a portrait. I have attempted to answer some of the most frequently asked questions in the list below.
If you still have a question that you would like me to answer then please get in touch via my contact page.
How long will my picture take to be painted?
A standard portrait of 20×16 can take up to a couple of months to complete, so make sure you contact me well in advance of the time that you need the painting to be done by.
How much does a painting cost?
There are many factors in determining the final cost including size of the painting, number of subjects, complexity of clothing or background, whether its a head & shoulders portrait or full length, etc... Please contact me via my contact form to discuss your requirements and I will produce a quotation for you.
Will I need to pay a deposit?
Will the picture be framed?
I don't get involved with the framing as designs and costs vary a lot, but I'm happy to provide advice if required.
How long will I need to sit still for?
Not for very long. I usually work with one or more photographs, but a sitting can be arranged if convenient for the subject.
What is involved in the process?
Meet up if possible to discuss the painting and look at photos.
I usually work from one particular photograph, but always helpful to see a couple more pictures to get a really rounded impression both of the subject's appearance and personality.
A portrait is highly personal so I may have further discussions about it to ensure that you are happy with the final painting.
Can you paint a deceased person?
I will need photos and a bit of information about the subject's character.
Can I view the picture at different stages before it’s finished?
I prefer to work on my paintings in isolation, but you can monitor progress via my Instagram feed where I may post photos of the painting at various stages while I work on it.
Do you do drawings, watercolours, pastels?
I am not local to Bristol, can I still have my portrait painted?
I will need photos posted to me and I will return these by secure delivery along with the finished artwork.
A charge will be made for the shipping costs.
Can I have a print of my portrait?
